Summer camp carnival

Dear parents,

Friday July 29th will be carnival day at camp. All campers will participate in relays, carnival games, water games etc. In the afternoon, the different groups will show their peers some of what they have learned or otherwise done during camp. Half-day campers are welcome to stay all day. Due to space limitations we unfortunately cannot invite parents to the show.

Please make sure your campers bring their swim suit, a towel, shoes that can get wet and sun protection for this day!

Chinese 6-11, week 6

Dear parents,

Welcome to my Chinese class, I am Yiren, Chinese teacher of the camp, and Olivia is my assistant.

It was great having your kids in my summer camp Chinese class. We had so much fun together.

If weather permits, we go swimming on both Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, please send your child to camp with a towel, sandal, goggle, swim suit and sunscreen if necessary.

Theme: Asian Festivals and Preparation for the Camp Performance

Areas of Exploration: Students will increase their knowledge of Chinese Minorities’ Culture (since they do show a lot of interest in the 55 minorities), as well as some other Asian cultures.

Language: Students will use basic sentences to describe how they like the festivals and the reasons.

Activities: – Make Chinese dumpling

- Field Trip (Depends on the weather), more information to follow

- Make an Asian style architecture with Legos

- Make performance costumes

Extensions: We will continue with the memory games and ArtRage Studio character practicing.

Dear  parents,

Welcome to the WIS Chinese Language Immersion Summer Camp!

I’m Yongmei who is the Chinese teacher for your kids during the 2011 Summer Camp. Together with my counselor, we hope, by the end of the summer, your children will be more interested in Chinese culture, learn more daily words and expressions in Chinese, and get trained in basic Chinese language skills as well.

In addition, if weather permits ,we will have water games this Tuesday and Friday (Water Carnival),  Please send you child to camp with a swimsuit, a towel, sandals if necessary.

Introduce the life of Inupiat ,traditional Inupiat dance, stories, legends,  idioms ,  etc.

Activities

●        draw a polar bear

●        learn some basic Chinese conversation

●        learn Chinese nursery rhymes

●        learn Chinese characters (puzzle game)

●        make a globe

Extensions

Play some Chinese legend videos, slide show, learn the dialogues with the aid of the pictures, do some simple writing, play some interesting games, food tasting, design and paint a collective mural, make a scrapbook with pictographic characters.

Chinese 6-11 Week 5

Dear parents,

Welcome to WIS Chinese Immersion 6-11 Camp, I am Yiren, Chinese teacher of the camp, and Olivia is my assistant.

We will have various interesting projects to do this week, by the end, we hope your child will be more interested in Chinese, learn more expressions and words in Chinese and get better understanding of Chinese culture.

In addition, if weather permits, we go swimming on both Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, and also have water games on Friday afternoon. Please send your child to camp with a towel, sandal, goggle, swim suit and sunscreen if necessary.

This week, we are going to travel to Spain.

Basic Language: vehicles, weather, animals.
Culture: Spanish dress, architecture, art painting, etc.

Activities: culture exchange with Spanish class; dough figurine making, such as a Spanish jar; make Spanish lego house; abstract drawing.

Also, we will continue learning Chinese idioms, listening to traditional Chinese folk music, playing some memory games and Chinese card games, practicing writing in the morning.
