Summer camp carnival
Dear parents,
Friday July 29th will be carnival day at camp. All campers will participate in relays, carnival games, water games etc. In the afternoon, the different groups will show their peers some of what they have learned or otherwise done during camp. Half-day campers are welcome to stay all day. Due to space limitations we unfortunately cannot invite parents to the show.
Please make sure your campers bring their swim suit, a towel, shoes that can get wet and sun protection for this day!

Multimedia Project Assignment
- Choose a topic of your choice about anything you could present, including but not limited to…
- A music video (starring you)
- How to (cook something, knit, etc.)
- A presentation of your home city
- Anything else that would be interesting for your classmates
- Choose a software such as
- GarageBand
- iMovie
- PowerPoint
- Using the software and music, photos, the English language (your voice and/or captions) plus video and other media, create a 3 to 5 minute movie to share with us.
I will be assisting you all day, as will the multimedia team.

WEEK 2: AMERICA and AMERICAN CULTURE

8.45-9.00 Warm-up: Listen to current event news broadcast

- Read about the three branches of government
- Listen to “Schoolhouse Rock:” How a Bill Becomes a Law
- Read “Just What is a Constitution?”
- Discuss
- If time, introduction of regional activity (for after break)

- Briefly introduce regions of the U.S.
- Divide into groups: Wild West, Southern Charm, Pacific States, Northeast/Atlantic Coast, and Midwest
- Choose a region from that your group will research (one of the above options)
- Propose a travel agenda on a map, identifying where you would travel and what your stops should be. This would include (but is not limited to):
- indigenous peoples and historical significance
- important landmarks/cities/pastimes
- regional food and common trends
- topography, flora, and fauna
- important people from the region
- Create a travel brochure that includes all of the above, plus other information, photos and ideas for travel. Have fun and be creative! This will be presented for the class on Thursday afternoon.

- Review lists of idioms: which do you know? Which are new? As a group, find the answers; finish by asking about the idioms no one in your group knew.
